App basics
The three or four things 90% of new users wonder about.
How do I add water?
The fastest way is the big tap target on the home screen — one tap logs your default glass size and the panda starts filling immediately. To log a custom amount, long-press the panda or tap the + button in the top right; you'll get a slider with quick-pick presets (250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L) and a manual numeric entry.
If you've been drinking and forgot to log, scroll the home screen down to Backlog and add an entry with a back-dated time.
Can I track other drinks like coffee or tea?
Yes. Hydro Panda tracks water, coffee, tea, juice, milk, sparkling water, sports drinks, and "other". Tap the drink-type chip above the panda to switch, or set a long-press shortcut for your most common non-water drink. The panda's water tint shifts subtly with each drink type — coffee toward warm tones, juice toward sunset orange — so you can see at a glance what you've logged.
By default we treat each drink as ~95% water-equivalent (which is in line with current hydration science), but you can override the multiplier per drink type in Settings → Drink types.
How do I change my daily goal?
Open Settings → Daily goal. You can pick from preset amounts, or enter a custom target in millilitres or fluid ounces. Hydro Panda's first-launch suggestion is based on the weight you (optionally) shared during onboarding — you can always override it. Goals are not medical recommendations; if you have a clinical reason to drink more or less, please see a doctor first.
How do I switch vessel skins?
Tap the panda on the home screen to open the vessel switcher, then swipe between mason jar, water bottle, glass, cactus, panda, and the classic circle. All six are free, with no unlock requirements. Your selection is saved per-device.
Reminders & notifications
If reminders aren't firing, it's almost always one of these.
Why aren't my reminders firing?
In order of likelihood:
- Notifications were declined. Open your phone's Settings → Hydro Panda → Notifications and make sure they're enabled. On iOS, also check that Time Sensitive Notifications is on if you'd like reminders to bypass Focus.
- Aggressive battery optimisation. On Android (especially Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei, Oppo), the OS frequently pauses background scheduling for apps it considers "inactive." Disable battery optimisation for Hydro Panda in your phone's settings, and grant Auto-start if your manufacturer offers that toggle.
- Quiet hours are too wide. Open Settings → Reminders → Quiet hours and check that your awake window covers when you'd actually like nudges.
- Goal already met. Hydro Panda doesn't nag once you've hit your goal for the day. By design.
Can I customise when reminders fire?
Yes. Settings → Reminders lets you set a start hour, an end hour, a frequency (every 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 minutes), and a notification sound. Reminders pause automatically inside iOS Focus modes that block notifications, and resume when Focus ends.
Do reminders work without internet?
Yes. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device using flutter_local_notifications. No push servers, no network calls. Even in airplane mode, your reminders fire on time.
Pro & purchases
Three bucks, once. Here's everything that surrounds that.
What is Hydro Panda Pro?
A one-time, $2.99 in-app purchase that removes the banner ad on the home screen — forever. There's no subscription, no second tier, and no feature gated behind it. If you'd like to support a solo dev who replies personally to support emails, Pro is also that. More details on the home page.
How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new device?
Install Hydro Panda, open Settings → Pro, and tap Restore purchases. The app asks Apple or Google for your past purchase history and re-grants the entitlement. You must be signed into the same App Store / Play Store account you used to buy originally.
On iOS, Family Sharing also works — if a family-group member purchased Pro, you'll receive Pro automatically the first time you launch on your own Apple ID.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google directly under their standard refund policies — Playpal Apps cannot directly issue refunds.
- iOS — request via reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Android — Play Store → Account icon → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history → Request a refund.
If a store declines and you feel there's a legitimate issue with the app itself, email playpalapps2024@gmail.com and we'll advocate for you.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. It never expires, never auto-renews, and is restorable on every device tied to your Apple ID or Google Play account.
Data & privacy
Where your sips live, and how to control them.
How is my data stored — is it private?
All hydration entries, settings, and streaks are stored locally on your device, in Hydro Panda's app sandbox, via SharedPreferences. We do not run servers, run analytics, or include third-party SDKs like Firebase, Mixpanel, or Amplitude. Delete the app and your data is gone — there is no remote copy.
For the full byte-level breakdown, including how AdMob and store-purchase verification work, see our privacy policy.
Can I export my hydration history?
Not in v1.0. We currently don't ship an export feature, mostly because almost no one has asked — but it's a high-value-low-effort request, so it's on the short-list for v1.1. If you'd like it sooner, email us; an extra voice nudges things up the queue.
If you need a snapshot today, the Settings → History screen lets you scroll your full log; you can screenshot it.
How do I wipe everything?
Two options: Settings → Reset all data wipes the sandbox while keeping the app installed (good if you want a fresh start with the same Pro entitlement). Uninstalling the app removes the sandbox entirely on both iOS and Android, including every saved sip — but you'd need to re-restore Pro on next install.
Why are there ads in a wellness app?
Honest answer: because Hydro Panda is built by one person, and an indie wellness app with zero monetisation has a short half-life. A small banner ad on the free tier means the app stays sustainable, gets updates, and never has to bolt on a subscription. If you'd rather not see ads, $2.99 once removes them forever — and it's the same price for everyone, no upsell tactics.
How do I manage ad personalisation?
Open Settings → Manage ad preferences. In the EEA / UK / Switzerland, this re-opens Google's UMP consent dialog where you can change your choices. On iOS, you can also revoke App Tracking Transparency at the system level via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Hydro Panda. On Android, reset the advertising ID via Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Devices & platforms
What runs Hydro Panda today, and what's coming.
Does Hydro Panda work on iPad and Android tablets?
Yes — Hydro Panda runs on iPadOS and Android tablets at launch, scaling the layout up gracefully. The panda gets bigger; the chrome stays comfortable. There is no separate iPad app — the universal binary is the same one shipped on iPhone, with adaptive layouts for the larger canvas.
Apple Watch / Wear OS support?
Not in v1.0. A wrist-tap to log a drink is genuinely useful, so a watch companion is on the roadmap, probably v1.2. We'd rather ship a careful watch app later than a half-baked one at launch.
Home-screen widgets?
iOS Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets — showing today's progress and a quick-log tap target — are planned for the v1.1 update. Android home-screen widgets follow shortly after.
What are the minimum OS versions?
iOS 15+ and Android 8.0 (API 26) +. We'll keep that floor as long as is practical; raising it gates real users out of updates, so we don't do it casually.
Reporting a bug
The fastest path to a fix.
Tell us what you saw
A one-line description of the bug, plus the screen you were on. Screenshots help — they take five seconds and save us hours.
Tell us what you expected
This is the part bug reports skip most often, and it's the most useful. "I expected the panda to fill" + "instead it stayed empty" is gold.
Tell us your device
Phone model, OS version, and Hydro Panda version (Settings → About). Even just "iPhone 14, iOS 17.4, app v1.0.2" cuts diagnosis time in half.
Send the report to playpalapps2024@gmail.com. We triage within 48 hours and reply personally — no ticket numbers, no canned responses.
