How do I play?
Drag any point on the tangled strand to move it. Your goal is to remove every crossing — the small red dots that pulse where the rope passes over itself. When the last crossing is gone, the strand settles into a sumi-e form on its own, and a vermillion seal is stamped onto your scroll.
Is there a timer or a score?
No. No timer, no score, no streaks, no leaderboards. The strand waits as long as you do. You can put your phone down mid-puzzle, come back tomorrow, and pick up exactly where you left off.
I got stuck on a level. What do I do?
Tap the small circle in the upper-right of the play screen — that's the hint. It gently moves one node halfway toward its resting place, often enough to suggest the next step. Hints don't count against you, and they don't cost anything; use them as often as you like.
How do I leave a level without losing progress?
Tap the back arrow in the upper-left. Inkline remembers exactly which puzzle you were on. Tap Continue on the main menu to come back to it.
Does Inkline work offline?
Yes, fully. Everything you need is on your device — the puzzles, the painting, the sounds, the Garden. The only time Inkline talks to the network is to verify the one-time unlock with Apple or Google.
I switched phones. How do I get my unlock back?
Open Inkline on the new device, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you used originally. Apple and Google remember the unlock — Inkline itself does not store payment information.
Restore Purchase didn't restore anything.
First, confirm you're signed in to the exact same Apple ID or Google account that originally made the purchase. Then check that your device has internet access — Restore needs to ask Apple or Google whether your account has the unlock. If neither helps, email us and include the receipt or order ID from your Apple / Google purchase history; we'll look into it personally.
I'd like a refund.

Refunds for the in-app purchase are issued by Apple or Google directly — not by us, because we never see your payment. Use the appropriate flow:

Apple (iPhone / iPad): reportaproblem.apple.com — sign in with your Apple ID, find the Inkline purchase, request a refund.

Google (Android): Play refund flow — Order History → Inkline → Request refund.

We're happy to help guide you through it if you write to us, but the refund itself is processed on the platform side.

My progress disappeared.
Inkline saves your progress only on the device you played on. If you reinstalled the app, switched phones, or cleared app data, the local save is gone, and there is no cloud backup to restore from. Your unlock can be restored from Settings → Restore Purchase, but solved-puzzle history can't. We're sorry — the trade-off for collecting no data about you is that we can't help recover it either.
The Daily Knot won't let me play.
The Daily Knot is the same puzzle for everyone in the world, dated by UTC. If you've already solved today's, the seal indicator on the menu stone goes quiet, and a new one will arrive at the next UTC midnight. If you'd like to replay today's, use the Replay link on the solve screen.
Can I reset everything and start fresh?
Yes. Settings → Reset Progress will lift every brush stroke from your Garden and unreveal every form. The button is in vermillion outline because it is permanent — there's no undo. Your unlock stays intact.
Why is the screen locked to portrait?
Inkline's compositions — the menu landscape, the level grid, the rope physics — are designed for portrait. iPads and Android tablets do rotate freely; phones are held in one hand and look best held tall.
What about an Apple Watch / Mac / web version?
Inkline is iPhone, iPad, and Android only today. The drag interaction is built for a fingertip on a touchscreen. We might consider a Mac Catalyst build in the future, but no concrete plans.
How do I report a bug?
Email with what happened, what you expected, and which device / OS version you're on. A screenshot helps a lot. We read every report and reply.
I have a suggestion for a new chapter / form / mechanic.
Send it our way. We do read suggestions, and many of the small details in Inkline came from players asking for them. No promise we'll add a specific thing, but every email is genuinely considered.
What data does Inkline collect about me?
None. Inkline has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no ad SDKs. Your progress is stored only on your device. The full disclosure is on the privacy page.
