1. What we do not do
- We do not collect personal information of any kind.
- We do not offer accounts, logins or sign-ups, and we do not ask for your name or email address.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising identifiers or a crash-reporting SDK.
- We do not run servers that receive your notes. There is no Nota backend and no sync service.
- We do not sell or share any data, because we have none.
2. What is stored on your device
Nota keeps the following in the app's own private storage on your phone or tablet:
- Your notes, including checklists and earlier versions of a note's text kept for version history
- Your folders and tags
- Sketches you draw and photos you add to notes
- Reminders you set on notes
- Your settings, such as theme and accent colour
None of this is sent to us, and we have no way to read it.
3. Permissions
Every permission is optional. Nota uses one only when you use the feature that needs it.
- Camera: to take a photo and put it in a note.
- Photos: to choose a photo from your library and put it in a note.
- Notifications: to show the reminders you set on notes.
- Face ID or fingerprint: to unlock notes you have locked. The check is done by the operating system, and Nota never sees your biometric data.
4. When Nota goes online
Nota works without an internet connection. It uses the internet in two situations only:
- You tap a link in a note. The link opens in your browser, which then works under its own privacy terms.
- You add an image to a note by web address. Nota fetches the image directly from that address. The site that hosts it sees the request, as any website would.
In neither case is anything sent to Playpal Apps.
5. Backups and exports
A backup is a ZIP file that Nota creates on your device. You choose where to save it or send it; Nota does not upload it anywhere. A backup is not encrypted and it includes your locked notes, so keep it somewhere safe.
"Export all notes" creates a ZIP of Markdown files. It leaves locked notes out. You can also share a single note as text, PDF or Markdown, and you choose where it goes.
6. Locked notes
When you lock a note, Nota asks for Face ID, your fingerprint or the device passcode before showing it. Locking is not a separate layer of encryption. A locked note relies on your device's own storage protection.
7. Device backups by Apple and Google
On Android, Nota's data is excluded from Google's automatic cloud backup. On iPhone and iPad, if you have iCloud or computer device backups switched on, Apple includes Nota's data in that device backup under your own Apple account. Playpal Apps has no access to it.
8. Deleting your data
Deleting the app deletes all of its data: notes, folders, tags, sketches, photos, reminders and settings. If you want to keep your notes, create a backup first under Settings > Backup & restore. Inside the app, deleted notes are kept in the trash for 30 days.
9. Children's privacy
Nota is not directed at children under 13. Because we collect no personal data from anyone, we collect none from children.
10. Your rights and your data
Because Nota never sends your data to us, there is nothing on our side to share, sell, retrieve, correct or delete. Your notes are on your device, under your control.
