The timer
How does Pomma work?
Pomma follows the Pomodoro method. You focus for one session, 25 minutes to begin with, and then take a short break. After four sessions you take a long break. Press Start on the Timer tab and Pomma keeps the count for you.
How do I change the session and break lengths?
Open Settings. Under Timer you can set the focus length from 5 to 90 minutes, the short break from 1 to 30 minutes, the long break from 5 to 60 minutes, and how many sessions come before a long break, from 2 to 8.
What is the sheet that appears before a session?
That is the begin ritual. It asks which task you are working on and lets you confirm the length and note your mood before the timer starts. Everything on it is optional. To skip it altogether, turn off Begin ritual in Settings.
Can breaks and sessions start by themselves?
Yes. Settings has two switches, Auto-start breaks and Auto-start focus. Both are off to begin with, so nothing starts until you press Start.
What do the buttons either side of Pause do?
The left button resets the current timer to its full length. The right button skips to the next session or break.
It asked "Switch session?" when I tapped a different mode
Changing between Focus, Short Break and Long Break while a timer is running discards the timer in progress, so Pomma checks first. Choose Cancel to keep going.
Does the timer keep running if I leave the app or lock the phone?
Yes. The timer works from the time the session started, so it stays correct while the app is in the background or closed. If notifications are allowed, you get one when the session ends.
The screen stays on while the timer runs
That is deliberate, so you can see the ring at a glance. To let the screen sleep as usual, turn off Keep screen on while running in Settings.
Tasks
How do I add a task?
Open the Tasks tab and tap the plus button. Give the task a title, add notes if you like, estimate how many sessions it will take, and pick a colour.
How do I work on a task?
On the Timer tab, tap the task bar under the ring and choose a task, or pick one on the sheet that appears before a session. Each focus session you finish is counted against that task, and its bar fills towards your estimate.
How do I edit, finish or delete a task?
Tap a task to edit it; the editor also has a Delete button. Tap the circle beside a task to mark it done, and tap again to bring it back. You can also swipe a task to the left to delete it.
Do I have to use tasks?
No. The timer works without one. Choose No task, or simply press Start.
Statistics
What does the Statistics tab show?
Today's focus time and sessions against your daily goal, this week's total, your current streak, a heatmap of the last 12 weeks, charts for the last 7 and 30 days, your most productive hours, your top tasks, and all-time totals.
How is the streak counted?
A day counts when it has at least one focus session. The streak is the number of days in a row, up to and including today, or up to yesterday if you have not started today.
How do I set a daily goal?
In Settings, under Daily goal, choose how many sessions make a day.
How do I clear my history?
Settings, then Reset all sessions under Data. This permanently deletes your focus history. Your tasks are not affected.
Sounds and notifications
I did not hear the alarm
Check that Sounds is on in Settings and that Volume is turned up there, then check the volume of the device itself. On iPhone, also check the silent switch or Silent Mode.
I did not get a notification when the session ended
Notifications must be allowed for Pomma in the device's own settings, and the Notifications switch in Pomma's Settings must be on. A Focus or Do Not Disturb mode on the device can also hold them back.
Can I change the alarm, or have a ticking sound?
Yes. Settings offers four alarms, Bell, Chime, Digital and Gentle, and a tick sound that can be Off, Soft or Classic.
How do I turn off vibration?
Turn off Haptics in Settings.
Widgets and Live Activity on iPhone and iPad
How do I add the Pomma widget?
Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen, tap the add button, search for Pomma and choose the small or medium widget. Lock Screen widgets are available when you customise the Lock Screen. They show today's sessions against your goal.
What is the Live Activity?
While a session is running, Pomma shows it on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island on iPhones that have one. It needs iOS 16.1 or later.
The Live Activity does not appear
Open the Settings app on the device, find Pomma, and check that Live Activities is turned on.
Privacy and data
Does Pomma collect anything?
No. There are no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your tasks, sessions and settings are stored on the device only. See the privacy policy.
Can I move my history to a new phone?
Pomma has no cloud sync, so history does not move between devices by itself. A full device backup and restore, as offered by iOS and Android, may carry the app's data across.
Does Pomma work offline?
Yes. Only the Premium purchase needs a connection.
